Stories of Hope

Meet Jordan

I enjoy playing guitar and worship music. I also enjoy working out, which I've done for years.

When I had nowhere else to go, Hope House Guthrie gave me shelter, a bed, food, and structure. What has meant the most to me is being around people who share my desire to stay clean.

I'm proud that I've found a job and become more open about sharing my life with others. I'm grateful to the people who support Hope House Guthrie. I don't know where I'd be without that support, but now I have some hope.

Stories of Hope

Meet Max Elam

Faith comes first for me. I enjoy drawing for others, skateboarding, spending time in nature, dogs, reading, and exercise. Humility, healing, and bringing hope to others matter to me.

I came to Hope House Guthrie during a financial crisis while struggling with alcohol. I lost my job and was evicted on the same day. I spent a week sleeping in my car, but I kept trying to find help.

At Hope House Guthrie, I found a bed, regular meals, and a safe place where I could feel at peace. The house leaders are genuine, caring, and real.

I'm proud that I'm not drinking, and I feel closer to God. My goals seem a little clearer every day. I'm working to better myself so I can help others. Thank you to everyone who supports Hope House Guthrie.

“I am proud to not be drinking. Also, feeling closer to God and my goals seem a little clearer every day.”

Stories of Hope

Meet Rondo

I let my work speak for itself in everything I do. My biggest focus is getting back to my kids and being a father again.

I came to Hope House Guthrie through Logan County Drug Court because I needed a local residence. Having a roof over my head has given me the opportunity to start building a foundation for the rest of my life and hope for a better future.

I'm extremely proud of my 14 months of sobriety. I've held a job for seven months, working six days a week. I've also worked hard to get my driver's license back and get a vehicle.

My main goal now is to become self-sufficient. I'm saving money to move into my own place. When I do, it will open up space at Hope House Guthrie for someone else who may need it.

“Hope House Guthrie has given me hope for a better future.”

Stories of Hope

Meet Bobby

I'm a hardworking, honest person who enjoys helping others and spending time with friends. During my time at Hope House Guthrie, I also served as Senior House Leader.

I came to Hope House Guthrie to get off drugs, get my life together, and improve my health. Being there gave me structure that helped me stay away from drugs and alcohol.

I'm proud of how far I've come. I've improved my life and health, found a great job, and now have my own home and car.

I'm working toward six years clean while continuing to take care of my health.

“It has helped me get my life together and improve my health.”

Stories of Hope

Meet Kelly Russell

Helping others who come after me, staying sober, and being a better me today than I was yesterday are important to me.

I came to Hope House Guthrie after jail, heartbreak, and struggles with drugs, and through the drug court program.

NA and fellowship with like-minded people helped change my life. At Hope House, I found a new family when I had lost my old one.

I also serve as a House Leader at Hope House Guthrie, giving me a way to help others who come after me and give back to the community that has supported me.

I'm proud of working to complete drug court, staying sober without relapse, and helping whenever I'm needed.

I'm working toward a better life and showing my girls that their dad is back.

“Being a better me today than I was yesterday.”

Stories of Hope

Meet Joe

I enjoy playing and creating music, traveling, fishing, camping, and studying spiritual things.

After decades of drinking and a few stays in rehab, I came to Hope House Guthrie. I've enjoyed my time here, and for the first time in a long time, I've stayed sober for an extended period.

Being around like-minded people who are also working to stay sober has helped me. There's a lot of support here, along with opportunities to get involved in the community and help others.

Staying sober is my biggest accomplishment. I'm also proud of getting a vehicle again and the progress I'm making in my relationships with God and my family.

I've also become a driver for Hope House Guthrie. It gives me a way to give back, help others, and contribute to the place that has supported me.

I'm working toward continuing my sobriety, building trust with family and friends, strengthening my relationship with God, taking better care of my health, and saving money for whatever my future plans may be.

“Staying sober is my biggest accomplishment.”

Stories of Hope

Meet Kenneth Wayne Yerton

I've served time, been homeless, and felt hopeless. I've lost many people and things because of drugs. Through a good program, a changed mindset, and like-minded people, I've learned that you can find yourself again.

I came to Hope House Guthrie because I was sick of being sick. At 52, I had hit my bottom. Hope House Guthrie has helped me with employment, mental health, stability, family togetherness, and close friendships.

I'm proud to be sober for almost two years and to have become the kitchen manager at Hope House Guthrie. I've kept the same job and phone number, and I'm helping people avoid going down the road I did.

I'm working toward my PRSS certification and a kitchen management certificate. I want supporters to know that the help here goes to people. It's real-time work that supports so many things in our community.

“Through a good program, a changed mindset, and like-minded people, you can find yourself again.”

Stories of Hope

Meet Brandy Fulton

I'm strong, funny, very smart, and a great mom. Even with all that, life still gets lifey. Struggles are real, and everyone goes through things. I want to laugh hard whenever possible and love everyone even harder. Life is too short not to.

I came to Hope House Guthrie seven days after having a baby, but I arrived alone. DHS had taken my children into care because of drug use and domestic violence.

Hope House Guthrie gave me safety while I found my way back to myself. I found love, friends, and a whole new family—a fellowship of people who have seen the dark depths of life and are putting their effort into a better future.

I'm proud to have returned to a job I loved before addiction took over my time. I have custody of my children again, and we live together in our own apartment. I'm no longer being hurt every day. I continue to focus on my kids and myself, and I'm working toward getting a car.

Hope House Guthrie gives people their lives back, or even a life they never dreamed of. If God puts it on your heart to help others or give back, supporting Hope House Guthrie helps both the residents and the whole Guthrie community.

“Hope House Guthrie gives people back their lives, or maybe even a life they never even dreamed about.”
